The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 8,200 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Happy New Year to all Falmouth Town Fans!

Happy New Year all and apologies this blog is so far behind! That is Christmas for you.

As you may well know Town have been grinding out some hard-earned results since December culminating in their fine 5-3 victory over Saltash in the Throgmorton Cup on Monday (yes we beat Saltash… in a cup competition!).

With Town now up to third place in the Table with four games in hand over current leaders Launceston there is a lot to look forward to in 2012!

Boys to beat are still Bodmin (2 games in hand over Town) and Buckland (5 games in hand) so watch out for a sting in the tail.

But I am sure we can rise to the challenge.

Cadbury Heath 1-2 Falmouth Town

Falmouth are through to the 3rd round of the FA Vase after defeating Cadbury Heath in a thrilling fixture away from home.

Both teams served up a great game of football with Falmouth stealing the victory just two minutes from the end of extra time. Who scored the winner? You guessed it Captain Mark Vercesi (Cheesey to you and me!)

Next up are St. Blazey at home on Tuesday evening (22nd November). Kick off is at 7.30pm.

All good things must come to an end and I am glad that I missed the demise of Town’s winning streak. With the 7-0 thrashing of Buckland and now a 5-1 victory over Town at Bickland Park it seems Bodmin have put down a strong marker for the championship.

It’s not over yet though and Town must now rally to beat Cadbury Heath in the FA Vase on Saturday. It’s a long way to Bristol just to lose boys so come on play out of your boots!

Next up in the league is St. Blazey at home on Tuesday evening (22nd). Kick off is 7.30pm. Back to winning ways I trust and believe…

Falmouth 4-1 Cullompton

Local fans were left hopping mad not by the efforts of their own team but by the disgraceful antics of a number of Cullompton players at Bickland Park on Saturday. A hotly contested clash from the word go it was a very physical Cullompton team who made all of the early running as Town were bumped and battered all around the park.

The deadlock was broken in the fifteenth minute by former Town player Lloyd Gardner who hit a great shot past Town keeper Jason Chapman.

Seemingly stung into action Town then started to play and took the game to Cullompton. In front of an increasingly impatient crowd the Cullompton keeper played a blinder to keep Town at bay until the 3 minutes before half time when Duckewnski rugby tackled Ian Hodges in the penalty area (the rugby was to turn to boxing in the second half!).

Town captain Mark Vercesi stepped up to put the ball away and level the game. Town had a couple more attacks before the ref blew his whistle which the Cullompton keeper did well to keep out.

I don’t know what was said in the Cullompton dressing room at half time but they came out for the second half apparently in a rage.

Within five minutes Drummond was brought down in the penalty area and Town had their second penalty of the afternoon. Captain Vercesi again stepped up and thumped it by the hapless Cullompton keeper – 2-1 Town.

Now with the bit between their teeth Town turned up the heat on Cullompton who were becoming more and more physical as the game went on. A third penalty was awarded to Town in the 58th minute when Hodges was again brought down in the penalty area. This time by the Cullompton keeper who was lucky not to be sent off.

Once again it was Verseci who stepped up to make it 3-1 to Town – his second hat trick within a week! Following the penalty, as the players made their way away from the Cullompton goal the visitor’s number 5 suddenly lashed out at Town’s Dan Green felling him with a single punch. Unfortunately none of the officials saw the incident and the player in question was allowed to continue. If that wasn’t bad enough he then mocked the Falmouth faithful literally sticking two fingers up at the crowd as they yelled “you are a disgrace number 5!!” Even the Cullompton goalkeeper was seen to shake his head in disbelief…

Fortunately although the Cullompton number 5 did not get what he deserved, Matt Drummond did in the 62nd minute when he made it 4-1 Town!

Game over and eleven wins in a row for the mighty Town!!

If Cullompton had come to play in the same spirit as Town then they might have gone home with a draw and a little bit of dignity. As it was they left with nothing.

Next game is away to Dartmouth on Saturday, then an eagerly awaited crunch game when high-flying Bodmin Town come to Bickland Park on Tuesday 15th November – Kick off 7.30pm. Bring all of your friends!

Falmouth 4-2 Liskeard Athletic

Falmouth moved up to 4th spot and to within just 4 points of current leaders Launceston after beating Liskeard Athletic in a bad-tempered match at Bickland Park on Tuesday evening.

The win over Liskeard means that Town have won an astonishing nine games in a row home and away, a run of form that has made them undoubted title contenders.

The next match is away next Saturday (27th Oct) against Tavistock, the next home game is against Cullompton Rangers on Saturday 5th of November.

Lets all hope that Falmouth produce some more fire works against Tavistock and that Cullompton get a good roasting on Bonfire Night!

It’s eight wins in a row as Falmouth breeze past Buckland

Falmouth Town made it eight wins in a row in all competitions on Saturday as they breezed past CSWPL champions Buckland Athletic (5-2) to reach the next round of the FA Vase.

The win followed an 8-0 demolition of Mousehole in the Throgmorton Cup last Saturday and confirmed Town’s place as the ‘in form’ team of the moment.

With an average scoring rate of just over six goals per game in the last eight games (that’s 49 goals) it can safely be said that Town are not having difficulty finding the net.

Far from being intimidated by the arrival of Ian Hodges, Matt Drummond has risen to the challenge and was a worthy winner of man of the match against Buckland.

The question is can Carey keep it going? If he can manage it then Town will inevitably rise to the top of the table and it could be that we will have an array of new teams visiting Bickland Park next season.

Blazey go down in flames as Town rampage to 1-8 victory

Falmouth Town made it six wins out of six at St. Blazey on Wednesday night running out 8-1 winners against a stunned home side languishing close to the foot of the table. The win followed a 6-2 trouncing of Dartmouth at Bickland Park on Saturday.

That means Falmouth have netted no less than 36 goals in just six games and have now moved up to sixth place in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League, just four points behind leaders Liskeard Athletic.

After a stuttering start to the season the Ambers are flying along and need all of our support.

The next game is against Mousehole this Saturday in the Throgmorton Cup. Needless to say Town need as much travelling support as possible to make sure we get into the next round and make it seven wins out of seven.

Witheridge 3-5 Falmouth Town

It’s 17 goals in 3 games as Falmouth beat Minehead 7-3!

Falmouth Town have booked a home tie with high flyers Buckland Athletic in the next round of the FA Vase after disposing of Minehead in a thrilling tie at Bickland Park on Saturday.

New striker Ian Hodges scored a hat trick with supporting goals from Matt Drummond, Shane White, Joe Lugg and Karl Turner.

That takes Town’s goal tally to 17 in the last three games, all of which were won convincingly. Now if only we can stop the leakage at the back…
